ESTABLISHES RESIDENT MISSION IR MEXICO WASHINGTON, February 4 - The Government of Mexico and the World Bank have decided to establish a World Bank resident mission in Mexico City. A Yugoslav professional, Mr. Marko Voljc, was appointed as the first resident representative in Mexico and has already assumed his new assignment. The resident mission will facilitate current discussions between the Government and the World Bank on policy and operational matters, assisting particularly in the design, preparation and implementation of the World Bank's lending program in Mexico. Mexico is currently the third largest recipient of World Bank assistance in the developing world, after Brazil and India, having received about US$9.8 billion in loans since 1949. Mr. Voljc joined the World Bank through the Young Professionals Program in July 1979. After graduating from the program in July 1980, he was assigned to the Latin America and the Caribbean Projects Department, Industrial Development and Finance Division 2, as Operations Officer and in April 1986 he was promoted to Senior Operations Officer. The resident mission in Mexico is the World Bank's fourth in Latin America. The Bank has missions in Colombia, Bolivia and Peru.
