September 9, 1987 Monique Amaudry Press Release No. 88/07 P 202/676-9331 IFC APPOINTS NEW SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN LONDON The International Finance Corporation has appointed Mr. Giovanni Vacchelli to succeed Mr. Hans Pollan as IFC Special Representative in Europe (London) who is retiring. Mr. Vacchelli, an Italian national, joined the World Bank in 1966 and transferred to IFC in 1970 where he held appointments in the Asia Department of Investments as Senior Investment Officer with special responsibilities for the Philippines and Korea. In 1977, he became the first Chief of the East Asia Regional Mission, headquartered in Manila. He subsequently became Manager, European Division (Turkey, Yugoslavia, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus) in the Europe and Middle East Department of Investments. In 1979, he was appointed Director of the Latin American Investment Department responsible for Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, Colombia, Venezuela. Mr. Irving Kuczynski is appointed Director of the Corporate Promotion and Syndications Department to succeed Mr. Vacchelli. A British national, Mr. Kuczynski joined IFC's Development department in 1978. He was instrumental in establishing the Corporation's Energy Unit and was appointed Manager of the Unit in 1985. - END -
