Despite a relatively favorable resource endowment, Guinea's economic performance has been poor because of past government policies. However, the present Government is committed to a program of major economic reforms which will eliminate most of the existing state enter- prises, encourage the private sector and increase efficiency in the public sector. Therefore, now there is great potential for tackling the urgent problems which exist in the electricity, petroleum and renewable energy subsectors, as well as organizational problems in the energy sector overall. The most urgent problems pertain to electricity and petroleum supply.
