NEWSPAPERS (202) 477~3573 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1985 WORLD BANK OPENS RESIDENT MISSION IN CHINA The World Bank officially opened a new Resident Mission in Beijing on October 25, 1985. The Mission will represent the Bank to all agencies of the Chinese Government and all external agencies stationed in China. Mr. Ernest Stern, the Bank's Senior Vice President for Operations, led a Bank delegation at a brief opening ceremony in Beijing. Since 1980, when the World Bank started operations in China, the scope and volume of the Bank's activities have increased substan- tially. The Resident Mission will play a major role in the Bank's dialogue with China and will facilitate development and implementation of the lending program. The Bank's program in China is expected to continue growing in the coming years. Edwin Lim, a Filipino national, has been appointed Chief of Mission . Prior to his appointment, he was Senior Departmental Economist with responsibility for managing the economic work on China.
