Under the project, 9 new villages for 450 settler families will be • established ~'1d 150 families will be installed in existing villages • It also includes the construction and rehabilitation of village wells, staff houses, vill/3.ge stores and classrooms, and about 100 kilometers of village a.~cess tt'acks and secondary roads. The project, will better the livelihood of 6,000 members of settler families and will contribute about $1.3 million net annually to Senegal's foreign exchange earningsQ The credit is made to the Republic of Senegal for a term of 50 years, including 10 years of grace, and no interest except a service charge of 3/4 of 1% to cover IDA' s ad.mini strati ve expenses. P. 440 ., Dakar , Senegal PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The development credit will finance over four years (i) investments to r1~settle 600 families as a follow-up of the pilot project which was fi~anced in part by a previous IDA credit, and (ii) • studies and surveys to prepare a master plan for Eastern Senegal, including pro- posals ·for an integrated agricultural development project. The credit will provide for: a) creation of nine new villages for 450 settler families and installation of 150 families in existing villages; b) construction. of 8 settlement officers' houses, 9 stores, 12 classrooms, 76 km of village access tracks and 25 km of secondary roads; c) construction of 9 wells for new villages and rehabilitation of about 15 wells for existing villages accepting settlers; d) credit for agricultural inputs and mechanical land clearing; e) agricultural extension services; and f) consulting services and Senegalese staff required to prepare a regional master plan. CONSULTANTS: Will be retained to prepare a regional development plan, and investment proposal for the agricultural sector in Eastern.Senegal ECONOMIC RATE OF RETURN: 14% ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: 1979 •
