C. 20433 TELEPHONE: EXECUTIVE 3-6360 IDA Press Release No. 72/50 Subject: Signing of a $16.0 million September 28, 1972 credit for a livestock develop- ment project in Turkey Turkey and the International Development Association (IDA), an affiliate of the World Bank, today signed a $16.0 million credit for a $28.3 million pr~ject for the expansion and improvement of meat and dairy production to meet rising domestic and foreign demand. The project is essentially an integrated livestock credit program com- • prising two parts -- a village livestock development sub-project in Northeast Turkey to stimulate increased meat and milk production; and a fattening sub- project, mainly focused on fattening districts in the Anatolian Plateau and Coastal Plains. ·At full development after seven years, the project is expected to in- crease beef production 6,300 tons and milk production 29,000 tons annually; result in 1,500 new jobs and fuller employment for some 7,000 individual sub- borrowers and 5,000 farmer group members; and substantially increase their net cash incomes. The IDA credit was approved by the Executive Directors of the Asr;ociation during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1972. Their approval was subject to com- pletion of IDA's Third Replenishment.
