VIRAL HEPATITIS SURVEILLANCE K u w a it . — In 1979, a total of 1 451 cases of viral hepatitis were reported—a marked decrease compared with the 2 422 cases reported in 1978. Of cases occurring in 1979, 1 037 or 82 % were diagnosed as hepatitis A, 337 or 27 % as hepatitis B virus and 77 cases were not specified. The incidence rate was much higher in males (34.4 per 100 000) than in females (17.1 per 100 000) and most cases occurred in the age group 20-50 years. The geographical distribution was uneven and most cases were reported from two districts of a lower socio­ economic standard. There was no relation between professional occupation and infection and very few cases were among medical staff.

SURVEILLANCE DE L’HÉPATITE VIRALE K o w e ït . — En 1979, un total de 1 451 cas d ’hépatite virale a été notifié, soit une nette diminution par rapport aux 2 422 cas signalés en 1978. Parmi les cas qui se sont produits en 1979,1 037 (soit 82 %) ont été diagnostiqués comme hépatite A, 337 (soit 27%) comme hépatite B et 77 cas n’ont pas été spécifiés. Le taux d ’incidence a été beaucoup plus élevé chez les hommes (34,4 pour 100000) que chez les femmes (17,1 pour 100000) et la plupart des cas se sont produits dans le groupe d'âge des 20 à 50 ans. La répartition géographique était inégale et la plupart des cas ont été signalés par deux districts de niveau socio-économique inférieur. 11 n ’existait aucune corrélation entre la profession et la maladie et très peu de cas se sont produits dans le personnel médical.
