Noting the recent unhappy episodes of mass poisoning i n some countries of the Region due t o contamination of wheat f lour with endrin,
Realizing t ha t the ru les and regulations f o r packaging and trans- portation of f o o d s t u f f ~ ~ p a r t i c u l a r l y wheat and wheat flour, a r e e i ther non-existent o r inadequate, thus making them vulnerable t o various contaminants,
Considering t h a t the exis t ing rules and regulations f o r paakagillg and maritime transportation of the insect ic ides were not f u l l y observed,
1. APPRECIA!llES the effect ive intervention of WHO and other agencies fo r the rapid diagnosis and consecutive control action;
2. REQUESTS the World Health Organization to take necessary action with the respective internat ional organizations f o r necessary review and preparation of adequate and s t r i c t standards f o r packaging and transpo&,ation of foodstuffs,particularly s tap le foods such a s wheat flour, r ice , etc.; and
3. RWJEsTS the World Health Grganization to intervene before respective internat ional agencies and governments f o r a s t r i c t observation of ru les and regulations f o r packaging and transpor- t a t i on of dangerous goods.
