COSTS OF MEETINGS OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE Report by the Regional Director The Regional Committee in its resolution WPR/RC2l.R14 adopted on
8 September 1970 inter alia noted "that only in the Western Pacific Region is the host government required to meet the additional cost of holding Regional Committee sessions outside of the regional headquarters" and requested "the Regional Director to place an item on 'Costs of meetings of the Regional Committee' on the agenda of the twenty-second session of the Committee".

The Constitution of the World Health Organization. Article 49 • The Rules of Procedure of the Regional Committee for the
provides that "Regional Committees shall adopt their own rules of procedure". Western Pacific provide that the Committee "shall determine at each regular session the time and place of its next regular session" (RULE 4). The Regional Committee in its resolution WPR/RC19.R4. adopted in October 1968. reaffirmed "the principle enunciated in its resolution WPR/RC4.R3 (September 1953) that extra expenses over and 'above those normally incurred when the regional committee meetings are held at regional headquarters must be borne by the host government". attached as Annex 1 is a table showing the venues and eosts of the meetings of the six Regional Committees of the World Health Organization for the years 1960 to 1972, inclusive, as reflected in the proposed programme and budget for each year. It will be noted uhatduring the thirteen-year period, the African Regional Committee met at Regional Office Headquarters 3 times, the Americas - 7 times, South-East Asia 5 times, Europe - 2 times, Eastern Mediterranean - 2 times, Western Pacific - 9 times. 4 Attached as Annex 2 is the estimated cost of holding the Regional
Committee in each of the capital cities of the fourteen; Members having seats of Government within the Region.
