NOMINATION OF THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR
Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization provides that the head of the regional office shall be the Regional Director appointed by the Executive Board in agreement with the regional committee.! Following his nomination by the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific at its thirty-ninth session,2 Dr Sang Tae Han was appointed Regional Director by the Executive Board at its eighty-third session, for a period of five years from 1 February 1989.3 To enable the Executive Board, at its ninety-third session, to consider the action to be taken on the expiration of Dr Han's contract on 31 January 1994, the Regional Committee should consider the nomination of the Regional Director for the Western Pacific for a period beginning 1 February 1994. The procedure for the nomination of the Regional Director is described in Rule 51 of the Rules of Procedure of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific. This item of the agenda will be considered in a closed meeting at 2.30 p.m. on Monday, 13 September 1993.
