EXPRESSES its appreciation and thanks to: (1) the Government of Australia for: (a) hosting the forty-eighth session of the Regional Committee in Sydney; (b) the excellent arrangements and facilities provided; (c) the generous welcome and hospitality received; (d) the informative and well-presented technical briefing; (2) the Chairman. Vice-Chairman and the Rapporteurs elected by the Committee; (3) the representatives of the intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations for their oral and written statements. WPRlRC48( I) Eighth Meeting, 26 September 1997 WPRlRC48/SRl8 DECISIONS REPORT OF THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR The Regional Committee, having reviewed the Report of the Regional Director entitled The Work of WHO in the Western Pacific Region: 1 July 1996-30 June 1997, and having approved the format and content of the new Part 2 containing an in-depth review of a particular issue, in this case human resources for health. 1978-1997, decided that the subject for Part 2 in 1998 should be "Fifty years of WHO in the Western Pacific Region". - WPRlRC48(2) (First Meeting, 22 September 1997) MEMBERSHIP OF THE SUB-COMMIITEE OF THE REGIONAL COMMIITEE ON PROGRAMMES AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION The Regional Committee, noting that the period of tenure of Japan, Malaysia, Tuvalu and the United States of America (Northern Mariana Islands) as members of the Sub-Committee of the Regional Committee on Programmes and Technical Cooperation expires on 31 December 1997, selected Hong Kong, China; France (French Polynesia); Palau; and the Philippines to nominate representatives to serve on the Sub-Committee for a period of three years from I January 1998 to 31 December 2000.
