Q OUTBREAK NEWS Anthrax, United States of America (update).1 As of 6 November, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had reported 22 human cases of anthrax, with 17 of these being confirmed and 5 being suspected. There have been 4 deaths associated with inhalational anthrax among the 22 cases. WHO is continuing to monitor the situation in the United States. CDC defines a confirmed case of anthrax as: (1) a clinically compatible case of cutaneous, inhalational or gastrointestinal illness that is laboratory-confirmed by isolation of Bacillus anthracis from an affected tissue or site; or (2) other laboratory evidence of B. anthracis infection based on at least 2 supportive laboratory tests. Il y a eu 4 décès associés au charbon pulmonaire parmi ces 22 cas. L’OMS continue de suivre la situation aux EtatsUnis. Selon les CDC, un cas de charbon est défini comme suit: 1) un cas cliniquement compatible de maladie cutanée, pulmonaire ou intestinale qui a été confirmé en laboratoire par isolement de Bacillus anthracis prélevé sur les tissus ou le site touchés; ou 2) toute autre preuve apportée en laboratoire d’infection à B. anthracis avec l’appui de 2 tests au moins.
