Appointment of representatives to the WHO Staff Pension Committee Report by the Secretariat 1. In conformity with the Regulations of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, and in accordance with resolution WHA2.49, WHO has a Staff Pension Committee composed of nine members (and nine alternate members). One third of the members are appointed by the Health Assembly, one third by the Director-General, and one third are elected by the participants in the Fund. The term of office is three years and, in order to maintain continuity, arrangements have been made to renew only one third of the membership appointed by the Health Assembly at a time. The principle of having the six WHO regions represented on the WHO Staff Pension Committee has been respected by previous Health Assemblies. 2. The following representatives of the Health Assembly have been appointed by: • the Sixty-fourth World Health Assembly from 2011: 1 (a) for three years: – Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, of the delegation of Ghana to the Sixty-fourth World Health Assembly – Mrs Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe of the delegation of Samoa to the Sixty-fourth World Health Assembly, as alternate (b) for two years: – Dr Viroj Tangcharoensathien of the delegation of Thailand to the Sixty-fourth World Health Assembly, as a member for the remainder of the term of office of Dr A.A. Yoosuf of the delegation of Maldives, namely, until May 2013 • the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly for three years from 2012: 2 – Dr Ali Jaffer Mohamed, of the delegation of Oman to the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly3

– Dr Michel Tailhades of the delegation of Switzerland to the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly, as alternate • the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly from 2013: 1 (a) for three years: – Dr Viroj Tangcharoensathien of the delegation of Thailand to the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly – Dr Mahmoud N. Fikri, of the delegation of United Arab Emirates to the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly, as alternate – Mr Alejandro Henning of the delegation of Argentina to the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly, as alternate (b) for one year: – Mrs Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe of the delegation of Samoa to the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly, as a member for the remainder of her term of office 3. The terms of office of the member appointed by the Sixty-fourth World Health Assembly, Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, and the member appointed by the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly, Mrs Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe, will expire at the closure of the Sixty-seventh World Health Assembly. In addition, Dr Mahmoud N. Fikri, appointed by the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly as alternate, will no longer be available to serve on the Committee.
ACTION BY THE HEALTH ASSEMBLY 4. The Health Assembly may wish to nominate Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira of the delegation of Ghana as a member for a three-year term until May 2017 and the most senior alternate member, Dr Michel Tailhades of the delegation of Switzerland, as a member for the remainder of his term of office until May 2015. 5. The Health Assembly may also wish to nominate Dr Darren Hunt of the delegation of New Zealand and Dr Mariam A. Al-Jalahma of the delegation of Bahrain as alternate members of the WHO Staff Pension Committee for a three-year term until May 2017. 6. The Health Assembly may wish to pay tribute to the late Dr Ali Jaffer Mohamed, former member of the delegation of Oman, who died in May 2013 and who contributed extensively to the work of the WHO Staff Pension Committee. = = =
