SURVEILLANCE D ES SALMONELLA C ameroun. — En 1971, sur 66 souches d ’origine humaine isolées

the Bacteriological Laboratory of the Institut Pasteur in Yaoundé in 1971,42 were obtained from haemocultures (35 S. typhi, 4 S. choleraesuis including 3 var. kunzendorf, and 3 S. enteritidis), 23 were obtained from coprocultures (10 S. typhi, 5 S. Stanleyville, 4 S. typktmurium, 2 S. enteritidis, 1 S. paratyphi B and 1 S. glostrup) and 1 was isolated from osteitis pus (S’, eboko, a new serotype added to the Kaufimann-White schema). O f the strains o f S. typhi, phage type A Douala has regressed in favour of phage type A Dakar, which seems to have been re cently introduced to Cameroon and was by far the most frequently isolated strain. By comparison with 1970, there was a very clear reduction in S. Stanleyville among inpatients at the Yaoundé central hospital, which leads to the supposition that this serotype, which has been established in some hospital departments for several years, is dis appearing. With regard to isolations from animals, nine strains belonging to seven serotypes were isolated by coproculture from 20 frugivorous bats examined; contrary to what was found in Madagascar, no salmonella was isolated by haemoculture. In general, the serotypes were different from those of man; however, the new serotype S. eboko was isolated from osteitis pus in a child, and a few months later from a bat by coproculture.
