The mission of EHII is to:  improve health and well-being in the WHO European Region by informing decision- making through the promotion, generation and use of technically sound information; and  work towards a single, integrated health information system for the Region. EHII is the operational platform under which all activities related to health information are coordinated and implemented at the regional level, in particular, multicountry health information networks. The burden of reporting is significant for Member States in the European Region. In addition to reporting for the Health 2020 policy framework and the Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases 2013–2020 (NCD framework), Member States respond to many other requests for regular reporting of data. With the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the commitment of Member States to report on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and indicators, this reporting burden is likely to increase substantially. This burden needs to be addressed as a priority for the European Region; doing so requires a thorough understanding of the similarities and differences between the main policy and reporting frameworks. Towards this end, the Regional Office has mapped the themes and indicators of the Health 2020, the SDG and the NCD frameworks to assess the extent to which they are aligned. The mapping results show considerable alignment; in particular, more than two thirds of Health 2020 indicators can be mapped with one or more SDG indicators, targets or goals. The Regional Office is also proposing the process for and content of a joint monitoring framework, consisting of a core set of indicators common to all three frameworks, which would replace individual reporting. EUR/RC66/TD/1 page 2 The purpose of this session is threefold:  to update delegates on the EHII;  to present the results of the mapping exercise and its contribution to streamlining reporting; and  to discuss and receive Member States’ feedback on a proposal and options for the joint monitoring framework that would reduce the data reporting burden. Format The technical briefing will take the form of an interactive panel discussion. The panel will comprise representatives from Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Slovenia. The panelists will share their insights on the mapping work as well as scenarios for the joint monitoring framework. Participants will have the opportunity to make comments and ask questions. Questions for discussion 1. How will the mapping exercise and the proposed joint monitoring framework affect existing frameworks and platforms in the subregions? 2. How can EHII regional health information networks support these efforts? 3. Would any of the framework platform options proposed by the Regional Office be of particular interest to Member States? 4. What are the next steps for the Regional Office and Member States?
