TETANUS SURVEILLANCE S r i L a n k a . — An analysis of epidemiological data relating to 888 cases of tetanus recorded over the four-year period 1971-1974 has brought to light the following facts which are of significance for the control of the infection. 1. Approximately one-third of the cases were in the newly born and almost two-thirds of the total number of cases were in children under 15 years of age. 2. The case-fatality rate for neonatal tetanus was 60% while that for other cases was 25 %. 3. Fifty per cent of the cases of tetanus neonatorum were General Hospital deliveries. It should be noted that 70% of all de­ liveries now take place in hospitals.
