Prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases (Resolution)

WPR/RC34.Rl5 PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES The Regional Committee, Recalling resolution WHA36.32 on prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases; Recognizing the increasing importance of cardiovascular diseases as a public health problem in the Region; Realizing the need to demonstrate the feasibility of cardiovascular disease control through primary health care, utilizing existing resources; Recognizing also the need to attract extrabudgetary resources; 1. URGES Member States~ (1) to intensify their efforts to initiate and develop programmes f or the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases as an integral part of their national health plans for the achievement of health for all by the year 2000; (2) to undertake health services research on cardiovascular diseases in support of the development of prevention and control progr ammes; (3) to establish in their health ministries responsible units, or at least focal points, for the above-mentioned purpose; (4) to train health and other relevant personnel, as appropriate, in cardiovascular disease control, with emphasis on primary health care; (5) to stimulate awareness of cardiovascular diseases health problem and of the value of general preventive n ::ttional health education programmes; as a public measures in 2.
