Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Sixty-sixth session Provisional agenda item 8 EM/RC66/INF.DOC.13 October 2019 Place and date of future sessions of the Regional Committee 1. The Regional Committee decided at its 64th session to hold its 67th and 68th sessions in the United Arab Emirates and the Regional Office in Cairo, respectively (Decision no.3). 2. The Regional Committee is invited to decide on the date of its 67th session in the United Arab Emirates in 2020. 3. The Regional Committee may also wish to consider proposals, if any, for its 69th session in the year 2022. 4. The Regional Committee is invited to consider holding most future sessions in the Regional Office, for logistical reasons. 5. In considering the above, the Committee is requested to keep in view the following resolutions of the World Health Assembly and of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean: WHA7.26: “RECOMMENDS that, in deciding on the place of their meetings, regional committees should consider holding them from time to time at the site of the Regional Office, taking into account the costs involved for the Organization and the Member States concerned”; WHA9.20: “INVITES the attention of the regional committees to the desirability of host governments participating in the increased cost resulting from holding regional committee meetings outside the regional headquarters”; EM/RC6A/R.13: “CALLS UPON Member States inviting the Committee to meet in their territories to make the maximum possible contribution towards this additional cost”. 6. Decisions taken by the Regional Committee for future venues will enable the Regional Director to make appropriate administrative and financial arrangements on a timely basis. 7. The Secretariat is at the disposal of the Regional Committee for any further details or clarification on this matter.
