INFLUENZA S o u t h A f r ic a (information dated 16 May 1972). — 1 In the East Rand Mine, near Johannesburg, a localized influenza epidemic occurred from 8 to 16 May. Fifty to one hundred cases were observed daily, all in the age-groups from 15 to 59 years. Two strains of virus antigenically close to A/Hong Kong/1/68 (H3N2) (and A/Johannesburg/71) were isolated. > Information received from the World Influenza Centre, London.

GRIPPE A f r iq u e d u S u d (information en date du 16 mai 1972). — 1 Dans la mine de l’East Rond, près de Johannesbourg, une épidémie loca­ lisée de grippe s’est produite du 8 au 16 mai. O n observa 50 à 100 cas par jour, tous dans les groupes d ’âge de 15 à 59 ans. On a isolé deux souches d ’un virus proche au point de vue anti­ génique de A/Hong Kong/1/68 (H3N2) (et de A/Johannesburg/71). 1 Informations reçues du Centre mondial de la Grippe à Londres.
