IMPORTED MALARIA U n it e d K in g d o m . — Malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum has been confirmed at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Ruchill Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, in two men who were admitted to hospital on 9 June. These patients had been on a holiday excursion to Kenya. They had not taken prophylactic drugs nor had they been advised that it was necessary to do so .1 The same Laboratory also reported the diagnosis of malaria due to P. m ax in a patient who had recently visited India but had stayed mostly in urban areas. Since the beginning of 1975, 13 cases of malaria have been notified to the Communicable Diseases Scotland Unit (CDS) from laboratories in Scotland. PALUDISME IM PORTÉ R o y a u m e - U n i . — Le paludisme à Plasmodium falciparum a é té diagnostiqué par le Département de Médecine de Laboratoire du Ruchill Hospital, à Glasgow, Ecosse, chez deux hommes qui avaient été admis à l’hôpital le 9 juin après avoir pris part à un voyage organisé au Kenya. Ils n ’avaient suivi aucun traitement prophy lactique, ignorant que cela fût nécessaire.1 Le même laboratoire a également signalé un cas de paludisme à P. vivax: la victime s’était rendue récemment en Inde mais avait séjourné la plupart du temps en zone urbaine. Depuis le début de 1975, 13 cas de paludisme ont été notifiés par les laboratoires d ’Ecosse au Service écossais des Maladies transmissibles. Le Tableau 1 indique, par type de parasite, le nombre annuel des cas de paludisme diagnostiqués en Ecosse depuis 1970.
