NOMINATION OF THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization provides that the head of the regional office shall be the Regional Director appointed by the Executive Board in agreement with the regional committee.! FolJowing his nomination by the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific at its twenty-ninth session, Dr Hiroshi Nakajima was appointed Regional Director by the Executive Board at its sixty-third session, for a period of five years from 1 July 1979.2,3 To enable the Executive Board, at its seventy-third session, to consider the action to be taken on the expiration of Dr Nakajima's contract on 30 June 1984, the Regional Committee should consider the nomination of the Regional Director for the Western Pacific for a period beginning 1 July 1984. The procedure for the nomination of the Regional Director is described in Rule 51 of the Rules of Procedure of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific. This item o.f the agenda will be considered in a closed meeting at 2.30 p.m. on Monday, 5 September 1983.
