Appointment of the Regional Director for the Western Pacific 1. The present appointment of Dr Shigeru Omi as Regional Director for the Western Pacific expires on 31 January 2009. 2. At its fifty-ninth session, the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific, in accordance with the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization, and with Rule 51 of its own Rules of Procedure, nominated Dr Shin Young-soo as Regional Director for the Western 1 Pacific and adopted the following resolution: The Regional Committee, Considering Article 52 of the Constitution; and In accordance with Rule 51 of its Rules of Procedure, 1. NOMINATES Dr Shin Young-soo as Regional Director for the Western Pacific; and
2. REQUESTS the Director-General to propose to the Executive Board the appointment of Dr Shin Young-soo for a period of five years from 1 February 2009.
ACTION BY THE EXECUTIVE BOARD 3. The Executive Board may wish to consider the above resolution of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific in accordance with the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution, and of Rule 48 of the Rules of Procedure of the Executive Board. 4. Further, the Executive Board is invited in this connection, to consider the following draft resolution: The Executive Board, Considering the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution of WHO;

Considering the nomination made by the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific at its fifty-ninth session, 1. APPOINTS Dr Shin Young-soo as Regional Director for the Western Pacific as from 1 February 2009; 2. AUTHORIZES the Director-General to issue a contract to Dr Shin Young-soo for a period of five years from 1 February 2009, subject to the provisions of the Staff Regulations and Staff Rules.
