CONSIDERATION OF DRAFT RESOLUTIONS The Committee considered the following draft resolutions:

Sub-Committee on the General Programme of Work (Document WPR/RC28/Conf. Paper No. 19) Decision: The draft resolution was adopted without comment (see resolution WPR/RC28.R20).

Sub-Committee on Programme and Budget (Document WPR/RC28/Conf. Paper No. 20) Decision: The draft resolution was adopted without comment (see resolution WPR/RC28.R2l).

The REGIONAL DIRECTOR, recalling the four points listed in document WPR/RC28/GPW/2 for consideration by the Committee at its twenty-ninth session in 1978, urged Representatives to give the question of achievement of the best and most informed level of representation at sessions of the Regional Committee and continuity of representation at 'the Regional CO,mmittee and the World Health Assembly thought in preparation for the discussions to be held at that session. Document WPR/RC28/GPW/2 had been distributed to all Member States with the other Regional Committee documentation but further copies could be made available to representatives on request. 2. The CHAIRMAN invited comments on the draft report . Dr CUMMING (Australia) questioned the use of the word "dissolve" in the penultimate paragraph of page 1. He thought it had been decided not to convene the Sub-Committee on Programme and Budget rather than irrevocably to dissolve it. The REGIONAL DIRECTOR, referring to resolution WPR/RC7.R7 in which the Committee decided that the establishment of a subcommittee on programme and budget should become a routine activity of the Regional Committee, said that it was his understanding that the Committee had decided to discontinue the establishment of the SubCommittee; that was how the relevant resolution had been worded; the word "dissolve" in the report would be changed to "discontinue". Dr NICHOLSON (United Kingdom), referring to section 1.7 of Part III, said that what he had wished to say was that the representatives of the United Kingdom had been very active in the discussions of EEC on SI units. They had certainly requested and they hoped that the units would be introduced gradually, but he could not yet say that this had been agreed.

It was agreed to substitute the word "suggested" for "agreed" in the report of the Committee and to amend the wording of Section 3.13 of document WPR/RC28/SR/3. Dr REMEDIOS (Portugal) said that "Regional Director" should be substituted for "Director-General" in the penultimate paragraph of Part 1. It was so agreed. In the absence of further comments the draft report was adopted (see resolution WPR/RC28.R22). 3. RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION (Document WPR/RC28/Conf. Paper No. 2l)

Dr FA'AI'UASO (Samoa) proposed a resolution of appreciation on behalf of the Regional Committee to the Government and people of Japan (document WPR/RC28/Conf. Paper No. 21).
He announced that the Government of Samoa wanted to make a gift of a "sawa" bowl to the hosts . . Amid applause, he handed the gift to the Chairman. Dr SENILAGAKALI (Fiji) seconded the proposed resolution, and added his personal appreciation. Decision: The draft resolution was unanimously adopted (see resolution WPR/RC28.R23). The CHAIRMAN said that his Government was honoured by the kindness shown in appreciation of its efforts. 4. CLOSURE OF THE SESSION: Item 24 of the Agenda
The CHAIRMAN added his own thanks for the cooperation of Representatives and the Secretariat, and declared the twenty-eighth session of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific closed.
