PASTELSRELLA MULTOCIDA U nited K ingdom . — During 1976 approximately five isolations
PASTEURELLA MULTOCIDA
p f Pasteurella multocida were reported each week to the Public Health Laboratory Service with a total o f 214 by early November. Most were due to dog or cat bites but 21 reports concerned persons who had no injury from either. Thirteen of these 21 had lower respiratory symptoms and the remaining eight had ulcers or ab scesses. In one patient the isolation was made after a foot amputa tion, Another patient, in whom P. multocida was identified in sputum, bronchial swab and in a pleural aspirate, kept 15 cats. Symptoms cleared satisfactorily after treatment in ail patients. As might be expected, dog and cat bites and scratches are most common in young children and in elderly patients.
R oyaume-U n i .
