INFECTIOUS HEPATITIS C anada . — In Manitoba 115 cases of infectious hepatitis were reported during March 1973, bringing the total to 288 as com pared with 211 for the same period last year. This is somewhat unusual because the incidence of this disease should be declining following the peak year of the seven year cycle which occurred in 1970. For Canada as a whole such a decline is in fact taking place. The entire excess o f cases can be accounted for by a con tinuing outbreak in the northern part of Manitoba and in parti cular Lynn Lake, Pukatawagan and scattered throughout the rest of northern Manitoba. During March there were 17 cases in Lynn Lake and 12 in Pukatawagan. An interesting feature of the outbreak in northern Manitoba is the fact that the disease was diagnosed in patients up to age 59 years, contrary to the usual five to nine years group. Also there were more males than females. Outside of the northern Manitoba region, 48 cases were reported from the Unicity of Winnipeg Region and the others scattered generally throughout the province.
HÉPATITE INFECTIEUSE C a nada .
