38 H. ISBELL & T. L. CHRUSCIEL CARBAMIC ACID ESTERS OF MONOHYDROXY ALCOHOLS Of the six compounds listed in Table V, only ethinamate (S 100) seems to have significant use at the present time. The fact that ethinamate can cause dependence of the barbiturate-alcohol type is well documented in the clinical literature.16', 164 Ethina- mate has not had an adequate evaluation for abuse liability in experimental animals. At present there seems to be little or no illicit traffic in the drug. Accordingly, ethinamate is rated as having moderate abuse potential. The remainder of the group (S 96-S 99 and S 101) appear to be obsolete and out of production in most of the world. No documentation is available respecting their abuse potential. Compound S 101, urethan, is used only for animals. If compounds S 96 to S 99 were to be used again in significant amounts, they would, by chemical and pharmaco- logical analogy, have to be suspected as probably having the same degree of abuse potential as ethinamate.
