TELEPHONE: EXECUTIVE 3-6360 For Release SUBJECT: Sir Penderel Moon November 22, 1962 appointed to Thailand The World Bank announced today that Sir Penderel Moon, of the Bank's Development Advisory Service, has been appointed. Chief Adviser to the National Economic Development Board of Thailand. Sir Penderel is expected to arrive in Bangkok on November 24 to join three other members of the Bank sta.:f'f who have been advisers to the Board since May of this year. He will remain in Thailand. for about two years • Sir Penderel is replacing Mr. John B. Shearer who was killed in a helicopter crash in Thailand last August. • Sir Penderel Moon was born in November 1905 in England. He received his M.A. degree from Oxford University and entered the Indian Civil Service in 1929. During his 15 years in the Punjab, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Multan and Amritsar, and was Secretary to the Governor. In 1944 he re- signed from the I.C .s., and went to serve the Yugoslav Commission of UNRRA.. A year later he returned to India to become Secretary of the Development Board, Government of India. In 1946 he accepted appointment as Public Works Minister of Bahawalpur State. A~er India's independence, he was appointed Chief Commissioner of Himachal Pradesh and subsequently became Chief com- missioner of Manipur. From 1952 to 1962, when he joined the staff of the World Bank, he was Adviser to the Indian Planning Commission • •
