The meeting was attended by delegations from France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, the African Development Bank, the Commission of the European Communities, the European Investment Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the International Monetary Fund, a nd the United Nations Development Programme. Observers from Canada, Italy, the Netherlands and the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were also present. The delegation of Malawi was led by the Honorable S.C. Hara, Minister of Finance . The Consultative Group discussed the current economic situation and the prospects for the Malawian economy, with particular emphasis on the progress which has been made since the three years of serious economic distress of 1980-82, and the need to sustain the recovery that has since been initiated.
