France- Tt-lephone 723 54 21 PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Publication SPECIAL HAITI SUBGROUP r..EE~ING OF THE CARIBBEAN GROUP FOR COOPERATION IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Paris, November 24, the World Bank chaired an aid coordination meeting of the Haiti Subgroup of the Caribbean Group for Cooperation in Economic Development in Paris to-day. The Haitian Delegation was headed by the Honorable Leslie Delatour, ~inister of the Econon:y and Finance. Some 18 other delegations were present, including Canada, France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Unite9 States, the Caribbean Development Bank, the Commission of the European Cocmunities, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the International Fund for Agricultura: Development, the International Monetary ~nd, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Development Progral:l!lle, and the World Bank. Representatives at the meeting exchanged views on Haiti's economic development policies and expressed strong support for the Government's economic recovery progra~. based on the priority sectors of ..  - 2 - education, n~~lth and agrioulturc; ~he reform of puull~ ~ut~rpr1ses; the restructuring of manufacturing through tariff reform; and the improved management of public finances, with special emphasis on tax reform and expenditure control. Several donors announced major increases in their aid levels compared to those before the Government took office in February 1986, including an approximate doubling of disbursements. by Canada, France, the United States, the European Economic Com~unity and the International Development Association (of the World Bank).
