INTERNATIONAL BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT FOR RELEASE FOR THE PRESS A.M. Newspapers June 25, 1958 An agricultural survey mission to Peru, sponsored by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, (FAO), began its work in Lima this week. The mission was organized at the request of the Peruvian Government to review the country's agricultural resources and their present stage of utilization with a view to making recormnendations for a systematic program of' long-range agricultural developmc:ert. Chief of the mission is Dr. Roland R. Renne, who has been President of' Montana State College since 1943. Dr. Renne is a. recognized authority in • agricul tu.:ral economics, and his servic~ in national programs has included membership on the National Forest Advisor:,- Board, the National. Ad:viscry Council on Indian Affairs, and the President's Water Resources Policy Comm.i.ssion~ He was Chief of "the Mut1Jal Security Agency's Special Technical ar.d Economic Mission to the Philippi~es in 1951-53. Dr. Renne is the author of articles on farm taxation, agriculti~.ral credit, land economic s, public finance and administration and of a widely used text book on land economics. Other members of the mi.ssion are Specialized Field Douwe Groenveld (Netherlands) Economist Peter B. Diebold (United States) Economist M.A.F. Dijkmans (Netherlands) Forestry Roger F. Burdette ( United States ) Marketing Herman J. Finkel (United States) Water Resources •• D.C. Greene (United Kingdom) J. F. V. Phillips ( South Afri,ca) Torgeir Finsaas (Norway) Livestock Agricultural Production Transportation .., .. ·-. '· - 2 - ;• .........:',: · ,J·~ Mr. Phillips was recruited especially to serve with the mission; Messrs. Groenveld and Finsaas are members of the Bank's staff; and all the others are :members of the FAO technical assistance group already stationed in Peru. Specialists on land policy and agricultural organization will join the mission later and other FAO experts in the area will advise the mission fa~:·· short periods. The mission. expects to be in Peru for about four months . • •
