FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE •World Bank 1818 H Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20433, U.S.A.• Telephone: (202) 477~1234 IDA NEWS RELEASE NO. 79/94 June 14, 1979 IDA PROVIDES $2.2 MILLION FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO TOGO The International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank's soft-loan affiliate, has approved a $2.2 million credit to provide tech- nical assistance to the Ministry of Planning of the Republic of Togo. The credit will cover the cost of providing the services of two senior advisers for three years each. A senior economist will give advice on economic and public finance matters and help design the coun- try's Fourth Development Plan for 1981-85. This adviser will also be responsible for analyzing future investment strategies. • The other, a senior project adviser, wil 1 review proposals for major new investments and existing projects to improve their financial viability. The advisers will be assisted by short-term consultants in carrying out specific project-related studies as well as macro-economic studies. It is expected that the project will help the Ministry of Planning to better integrate future investments with the objectives of the next Development Plan, which would result in sounder investment and public sector policies. The $2.2 million IDA credit will be supplemented by a contribution of $200,000 from the Government of Togo. The credit is for a term of 50 years, including 10 years of grace. It carries no interest, but bears a service charge of 3/4 of 1% per annum to cover administrative costs. NOTE: Money figures are expressed in U.S. dollar equivalents . •
