Project The project is intended to complete preparatory work Description: on a large rehabilitation program for the Conakry system part of which would be appraised next year as the Bank Group's First Power Project in Guinea. As the pre- paratory work on the program has progressed, an urgent need for emergency repair work to preclude total system collapse has become manifest; the project thus provides as well for these repairs. The project comprises: (i) a study to determine the feasibility of either repairing or replacing the Grandes Chutes Dam, which is the primary source of potable water for the city of Conakry as well as a storage chamber for the generation of electric power to the cities of Conakry and Kindia; (ii) technical assistance to help the Societe Nationale d'Electricite (SNE) carry out an audit of its 1978 financial statements and implement the recommendations of external auditors; and (iii) emergency repair of four generating units and of the telecommunication system between generating plants.
