* INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION 1818 H STREET, N.W., WASHINGTON D, C. 20433 TELEPHONE, EXECUTIVE 3-6360 IDA Press Release No. 72/57 Subject: Signing of an $8.0 million September 29, 1972 credit for a site and ser- vices project in Senegal Senegal and the International Development Association (IDA), an affiliate of the World Bank, today signed an $8.0 million credit for an approximately $13.0 million equivalent project designed to deal with the problem of rapid urban growth in Senegal's two largest cities -- Dakar, the capital, and Thies. It is the first project of this type to be assisted by the World Bank Group. The project includes provision of 15,600 lots in Dakar and Thies for the construction of dwellings accomodating about 156,000 people; extensions to the primary road, water and power networks to, and through, the project areas; construction and equipment for 14 primary schools, four secondary schools and five health centers; technical assistance; and studies. The IDA credit was approved by the Executive Directors of the Association during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1972. Their approval was subject to com- pletion of IDA's Third Replenishment. With the coming into effect of the Third Replenishment of the resources of IDA (amounting to a total of $2,442 million) on September 22, the credit was signed today. -0-
