Appointment of the Regional Director for the Americas

The present appointment of Dr Carissa Etienne as Regional Director for the Americas expires on 31 January 2018. 2. The 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference (sixty-ninth session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas) elected Dr Carissa Etienne as Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau for a second term of five years, to begin on 1 February 2018, and decided to submit to the Executive Board the name of Dr Carissa Etienne for appointment as Regional Director for the Americas. 3. The text of the relevant resolution 1 is given below: ELECTION OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE PAN AMERICAN SANITARY BUREAU AND NOMINATION OF THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION FOR THE AMERICAS The 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference, Bearing in mind Articles 4.E and 21.A of the Constitution of the Pan American Health Organization, which provide that the Pan American Sanitary Bureau shall have a Director elected at the Conference by the vote of a majority of the Members of the Organization; Bearing in mind Article 4 of the Agreement between the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization and Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization, which establish the procedure for the appointment of Regional Directors of the World Health Organization; Satisfied that the election of the Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau has been held in accordance with the established rules and procedures, RESOLVES: 1. To declare Carissa Etienne elected Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau for a period of five years to begin 1 February 2018 and end 31 January 2023. 1 Resolution CSP29.R10. EB142/33 2 2. To submit to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization the name of Dr Carissa Etienne for reappointment as Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Americas for the same period. ACTION BY THE EXECUTIVE BOARD 4. The Executive Board may wish to consider this resolution in accordance with the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization and of Rule 48 of the Rules of Procedure of the Executive Board. 5. The Executive Board is invited thereafter to consider the following draft resolution: The Executive Board, Considering the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization; Considering the nomination made by the Regional Committee for the Americas at its sixty-ninth session, 1. REAPPOINTS Dr Carissa Etienne as Regional Director for the Americas as from 1 February 2018; 2. AUTHORIZES the Director-General to issue a contract to Dr Carissa Etienne for a period of five years as from 1 February 2018, subject to the provisions of the Staff Regulations and Staff Rules. = = =
