VIRUS DISEASES SURVEILLANCE A ustralia . — In a recent outbreak of food poisoning due to rock oysters, 64 faecal specimens were examined by electron micro scopy and inoculation of cell cultures. Two different types of viral particles were found by electron microscopy. In no case were the two types found in the same specimens. Specimens from 25 patients carried particles measuring 23-24 nm. and resembling parvoviruses, while larger (28-30 nm.), enterovirus-like particles were found in 21 specimens. Nine enteroviruses were isolated in cell cultures, all from specimens in which the larger particles were found. It is interesting to note the findings of two viral types in what appears to be one single clinical entity.

SURVEILLANCE DES MALADIES À VIRUS A ustralie .
