36 REGIONAL COMMITTEE: TWENTY-THIRD SESSION WPR/RC23.R4 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAMMES The Regional Committee, Having considered the report presented by the Regional Director on occupational health programmes,l THANKS the Regional Director for his report. Fourth meeting, 29 September 1972 WPR/RC23.R5 QUALITY OF DRINKING WATER ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS The Regional Committee, Having considered the information provided by the Japanese delegation on the quality of drinking water carried on air crafts during international flights arriving in Tokyo from within and outside the Region, 1. NOTES with concern the high proportion of samples which did not meet the international quality standards for drinking water recommended by WHO; 2. URGES the health agencies of Member countries in the Region to ensure that the quality of the drinking water and ice used for international flights meets the above standards; 3. REQUESTS the Director-General of the World Health Organization to submit this important matter to Member countries of other WHO regions for their consideration. R6 REVISIONS TO THE RULES OF PROCEDURE OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE WESTERN PACIFIC The Regional Committee, Having considered the proposals of the Director-General and the Regional Director concerning the use of the Chinese language at sessions of the Regional Committee, 1 Document WPR/RC23/5. ·. . "- REPORT OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE 37 1. APPROVES these proposals, to come into effect from 1973; 2. ADOPTS the following amendments to the Rules of Procedure: LANGUAGES Rule 21 Chinese, English and French shall be the official languages, and English and French the working languages, of the Committee. Rule 22 Speeches made in either of the working languages shall be interpreted into the other working language and into Chinese. Speeches made in Chinese shall be interpreted orally into both wo rking languages. Rule 23 Any representative may speak in a language other than the official languages. In this case he shall himself provide for interpretation into one of the working languages. Interpreta- tion into the other working language and into Chinese by an interpreter of the Secretariat may be based on the interpreta- tion given in the first working language. Rule 24 All resolutions, recommendations and other decisions of the Committee shall be drawn up in both working languages. THANKS the Regional Director for his report; 2. NOTES that most of the countries and territories in the Region require aircraft disinsection on all international flights and will accept vapour disinsection should it be recommended by WHO; lDocument WPR/RC23/6 and Add.l.
