They did, however, show varying degrees of anti genic difference from the prototype A/Port Chalmers/1/73 virus (titres with A/PC/1/73 ferret antiserum were 2-4 fold lower than homologous titre) but did not show the same degree o f “drift” as exhibited by A/Scotland/840/74. on po u r la

The influenza A isolates from Bangui, Central African Republic,2 were tested by haemagglutination-inhibition and were found to be antigenically closer to A/Port Chalmers/1/73 than to other Hong Kong (H3N2) variants. They did, however, show some minor antigenic difference from the A/Port Chalmers/1/73 prototype virus in their complete lack of cross-reactivity with antiserum to A/Hong Kong/1/68 and very low inhibition titres with antiserum to A/England/42/72. The recent influenza A isolates from Vienna, Austria,3 were found to be antigenically closer to A/Port Chalmers/1/73 than to other Hong Kong (H3N2) variants. They did however show evidence of antigenic differences from the A/Port Chalmers/1/73 prototype, mainly in their lack of cross-reaction with antiserum to A/Hong Kong/1/68 and low titres with antiserum to A/England/ 42/72. * See No. 10, p. 110. » See No. 4, p. 42. * See No. 6, p. 69.

* Voir N° 4, p. 42.
