STAPHYLOCOCCAL FOODBORNE INFECTION1 D en m a r k . — The origin of the foodborne staphylococcal infection affecting more than a hundred passengers on a charter flight from Japan to Europe has been further investigated. The cook in Anchorage who prepared the breakfast for the flight was found to have boils on his fingers from which staphylococci were isolated. These organisms were of the same phage type as those isolated from the ham served for breakfast prior to arrival in Den mark and also identical to those isolated from hospitalized patients. The enterotoxin produced by the staphylococci was detected in high concentrations on some of the ham slices which were available for examination. The remaining two patients affected in the outbreak were discharged from hospital on 12 February.

‘ Voir N» 6, p. 70.
