WHO response to global change: report of the Sub-Committee, part III (Resolution)

REPORT OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE 29 2. URGES Member States: (I) to participate actively in the third evaluation of the implementation of the strategy for health for all in 1997; (2) to work closely with other Member States and WHO in the renewal of the strategy for health for all that will direct health policies into the 21 st century; 3. REQUESTS the Regional Director: (I) to ensure that the third evaluation of the implementation of the strategy for health for all is effectively accomplished and related to the renewal of the strategy for health for all; (2) to provide technical support to Member States as required; (3) to report to the Regional Committee at its forty-eighth session on the renewal of the health-for-all strategy for the 21 st century. Part Ill: WHO response to global change; I Recognizing tlie need to continue reform of the Organization and to ensure WHO's leadership in health; Supporting the multisectoral approach to solving health problems; Appreciating tile changes that have already taken place in the Region as part of the ongoing reform processes in the work of the Organization: Welcoming the continuing review of the work of the Organization; I. ENDORSES the recommendations of the Sub-Committee; 2. ENCOURAGES the process of constitutional review as laid down by the World Health Assembly resolution WHA4S.14 and Executive Board decision EB97( II); 3. EMPHASIZES the value of the Sub-Committee as a working body of the Regional Committee, and of the country visits for information gathering and exchange of experiences among countries of the Region, and of evaluating tf)e impact of WHO's cooperation with Member States in relation to the implementation of the regioml strategies for health for all; I Documents WPR/RC47/11 and WPRlRC47/11 Add. REQUESTS the Regional Director: (I) to continue to undertake the reform measures, as described in the report on the WHO response to global change', aligning the work of the Organization closely to the present and future needs of Member States in the spirit of global change; (2) to report to the Regional Committee on ongoing work on reform in the annual health situation report and the relevant agenda items before the Regional Committee; (3) to convey the summary records of the discussion on this item to the special group of the Executive Board considering review of the WHO Constitution. Eighth Meeting, 13 September 1996 WPRlRC47/SRl8 WPR/RC47.RII FULL INVOLVEMENT OF WOMEN IN ALL ASPECTS OF THE WORK OF WHO IN THE WESTERN PACIFIC REGION The Regional Committee, Having considered the report of the Regional Director on the full involvement of women in all aspects of the work of WHO in the Western Pacific Region;2 Recalling resolutions WHA38.12, WHA49.9, EB91.R 16, EB93.R 17 and EB97.R 12; Recalling also plans of action and recommendations made in several international forums over the last few decades, in order to improve and increase women's participation in the overall development process; Noting the current status of female representation on special bodies, advisory committees, expert panels and government delegations as well as the employment situation of women in the WHO Western Pacific Region; Recognizing the importance of also focusing on the impact of WHO activities on women, and the ability of women to participate in and benefit from those activities; I. STRESSES the importance of increasing the representation of women ,n higher-graded professional posts in WHO; 2.
