As requested by the Executive Board at its 120th session,1 a group of experts and interested Member States has been convened to help resolve outstanding issues regarding resolution EB120.R21. The report outlines the outcomes and recommendations of the consultation on the scope of health technologies.

Avian and pandemic influenza: follow-up to discussions at Sixtieth World Health Assembly
Item proposed by the Chairman of the Board. The Board will receive an oral summary of the debate at the Health Assembly on this agenda item. Key questions will be highlighted in order to guide preparation of a draft plan of action.

Management, budget and financial matters 6.1 Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the World Health Organization: report in accordance with resolution EB120.R19
As requested by the Executive Board at its 120th session, the report reviews a number of issues related to mandatory appointment to the position of Deputy Director-General. It also reviews the legal implications of, and explores options related to, the geographical rotation of the position of Director-General. 6.2
Methods of work of the Executive Board
In the light of experience since the last revision of the Rules of Procedure of the Board,1 the report makes suggestions, among others, on criteria for selecting additional agenda items, time lines for drawing up the provisional agenda, the availability of documents on the Internet and, as requested by the Programme, Budget and Administration Committee of the Executive Board,2 on improving the quality and quantity of governing body resolutions.

Multilingualism: plan of action
The draft plan of action proposes a strategy and a set of concrete proposals to further multilingualism at WHO. The plan sets out medium- and long-term goals that are linked to objectives and indicators in order to monitor and evaluate progress.

Committees of the Executive Board: filling of vacancies Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines: establishment of a subcommittee
At its 15th meeting in March 2007, the Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Essential Medicines, noting that resolution EB120.R13 recommended revision and update of the Model List of Essential Medicines in order to include missing essential medicines for children, recommended that a subcommittee should be established for this purpose.

Pursuant to the Regulations for Expert Advisory Panels and Committees, a report is submitted on meetings of expert committees and study groups, including a summary of the recommendations contained in the reports of expert committees, and comments on their significance for public health policies and implications for the Organization’s programmes.
