DIARRHOEAL DISEASE SURVEILLANCE Sri L anka. — An outbreak of diarrhoea reported from Jaffna in March 1976 was at first considered to be due to Entamoeba histolytica. Subsequently Shigella dysenteriae, type I, was isolated from stool specimens of three of the affected persons. The organism was sensitive to ampicillin, nalidixic acid but resistant to tetra­ cycline and partially resistant to chloramphenicol.

SURVEILLANCE DES MALADIES DIARRHÉIQUES Sr i L a n k a . — Une poussée épidémique de diarrhée signalée à Jaffna en mars 1976 avait initialement été considérée comme due à Entamoeba histolytica. Par la suite, on a isolé d ’échantillons de selles de trois malades Shigella dysenteriae, type I. Le micro-orga­ nisme était sensible à l’ampicilline et à l’acide nalidixique, mais résistant à la tétracycline et partiellement résistant au chloramphénicol.
