POLIOMYELITIS SURVEILLANCE Spain . — A total of 71 cases o f poliomyelitis were notified during the first six months of 1978.1 Fifty-four, including 31 cases in an epidemic, associated with type 1 in AJmeria province occurred during the first four months. The 17 cases notified in May and June were reported from nine different provinces, but no more cases were notified from Almeria province. O f these 17 cases, six were laboratory confirmed; two were of type 3 (Barcelona and Madrid), one of type 2 (Huelva) and three of type 1 (two in Malaga and one in Seville). Nine o f the 17 pa­ tients were not vaccinated, and three were incompletely vaccinated. In four cases the history o f vaccination was doubtful, and in one case the disease occurred 15 days after administration of the second dose of oral vaccine. » Voix N» 32, p. 238.

SURVEILLANCE DE LA POLIOMYÉLITE E s p a g n e . — Un total de 71 cas de poliomyélite ont été notifiés pendant les six premiers mois de 1978,1 dont 54 pendant les quatre premiers mois en raison d ’une épidémie de 31 cas associée au type 1 dans la province d ’Almeria. Les 17 cas notifiés en mai et juin se sont produits dans neuf provinces différentes, mais aucun n ’a plus été signalé dans la province d’Almeria. Parmi ces 17 cas, six ont été confirmés par le laboratoire. Deux étaient du type 3 (Barcelone et Madrid), un du type 2 (Huelva), et trois du type 1 (deux à Malaga et un à Séville). Neuf des 17 malades n ’étaient pas vaccinés et trois étaient incomplètement vaccinés, Dans quatre cas l’histoire de la vaccination était douteuse et, dans un cas, la maladies’est déclarée 15 jours après l’administra­ tion orale de la deuxième dose de vaccin. « See No. 32, p. 238.
