2015 Issue No. 6 - Week 13 (as of 31 March 2015) HIGHLIGHTS Type 2 Certification of Eradication The Global Commission for the Certification of polio eradication (GCC), at its next meeting during the second half of 2015, will consider evidence to declare that wild poliovirus type 2 (WPV2) was eradicated globally more than 10 years ago. All Members States in the Western Pacific Region are requested to provide no later than end-April 2015 a formal statement to the Regional Certification Commission through WHO confirming when WPV2 was last detected in the country (if ever). The information received from countries will be critically important for the GCC’s decision/ declaration on WPV2. Information in WHO about when WPV2 was last detected in Members States of the Western Pacific Region is as follows: 3.0

1. Prefix letter refers to the VDPV category - "cVDPV" = circulating VDPV, "iVDPV" = immunodeficiency-associated VDPV, "aVDPV" = ambiguous VDPV, "?VDPV" = unknown. Suffix number refers to the poliovirus serotype (types 1, 2 or 3). 2. Refers to year of last VDPV case, and aggregate total of VDPV cases for 2000-2009
