Appointment of the Regional Director for South-East Asia 1. The present appointment of Dr Samlee Plianbangchang as Regional Director for South-East Asia expires on 28 February 2009. 2. At its sixty-first session, the Regional Committee for South-East Asia, in accordance with the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization, and with Rule 49 of its own Rules of Procedure, nominated Dr Samlee Plianbangchang for a new term as Regional Director for South-East Asia and adopted the following resolution:1 The Regional Committee, Considering Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization; and In accordance with Rule 49 of the Rules of Procedure of the Regional Committee, 1. NOMINATES Dr Samlee Plianbangchang as Regional Director for the South-East Asia Region, and 2. REQUESTS the Director-General to propose to the Executive Board the reappointment of Dr Samlee Plianbangchang from 1 March 2009.
ACTION BY THE EXECUTIVE BOARD 3. The Executive Board may wish to consider the above resolution of the Regional Committee for South-East Asia in accordance with the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution, and of Rule 48 of the Rules of Procedure of the Executive Board. 4. Further, the Executive Board is invited in this connection, to consider the following draft resolution: The Executive Board, Considering the provisions of Article 52 of the Constitution of WHO;

Considering the nomination made by the Regional Committee for South-East Asia at its sixty-first session, 1. REAPPOINTS Dr Samlee Plianbangchang as Regional Director for South-East Asia as from 1 March 2009; 2. AUTHORIZES the Director-General to issue a contract to Dr Samlee Plianbangchang for a period of five years from 1 March 2009, subject to the provisions of the Staff Regulations and Staff Rules.
