Having examined the Proposed Programe and Budget Estimates submitted by the Regional Mrector f o r t h e year 1968 f o r the Eastern Mediterranean ~ e g i o n l ;
Viewing with concern the continued general trend of decrease of funds fo r health under the United Nations Development Programe;
1. FINDS t h a t the programme a s presented ensures a sui table balance between the major subject headings;
2. NUlW with sa t i s fac t ion t h a t the smallpox eradication p rog ram, formerly financed from the Voluntary Fund f o r Health Promtlon, has now been incorporated i n the Regular programne i n accordance with Resolution WHA19.16 of the Nineteenth World Health Assembly;
3. APPRECIATES tha t continued prominence is given t o Educaticn and Training, Public Health Administration and Environmental Health a s well a s continued support t o the control of ConmNnicable Diseases;
4. REITERATES the importance of inter-country programmes, and supports the requests submitted t o the Governing Council of the United Nations Development P r o g r a m fo r a c t i v i t i e s included under t h i s heading i n the bi-ium 1967/1968 a s well a s the inter-country ac t i v i t i e s included i n the Regular programme;
5. URGES Member S ta tes t o accord a reasonably high p r io r i t y t o health projects within t he i r overal l submission t o the Governing Council of t he United Nations Development Programme;
6. ENDORSES the Proposed Programme and h d g e t f o r 1968 t o be implemented from the Regular budget of t h e World Health Organization and the a c t i v i t i e s proposed to be financed from Special Accounts under the Voluntary F'und fo r Health Promotion;
7. THANKS UNICEF f o r i t s constant co-operation and continued valuable support.
