1 Having reviewed the Annual Report of the Regional Director f o r
the period 1 July 1965 t o 30 June 1966.
Being fu l ly aware of the growing need for health services t o cope with the health problems associated with the rapid social and economic development taking place i n the Region;
Noting the constantly increasing need f o r more medical, para- medical and auxiliary health personnel required f o r developing health services;
Considering the necessity fo r control and eradication of endemic and epidemic diseases which still represent a maJor health problem i n the Region;
Acknowledging the f a c t t ha t within a t o t a l public health programme the provision of an adequate safe water supply and the safe disposal of human and indus t r ia l waste should receive a high prior i ty ,
1. FiEQUESTS the Regional Director t o continue t o provide advisory assistance t o Member States i n the development of a l l aspects of t h e i r health programmes, including preparation of r e a l i s t i c long-term national health plans;
2. ENDORSES the emphasis being given t o the t ra ining of technical and auxiliary personnel and t r u s t s t h a t the Governments of the Region w i l l make effect ive use of the recently established WHO Revolving Fund fo r the supply of teaching and laboratory equipment fo r medical education and training;
3. URGES the Governments t o explore pos s ib i l i t i e s of obtaining f inancial assistance from the UNDP Special Fund, the Regional Development Banks o r the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank, part icular ly f o r projects i n the f i e l d of c o m n i t y water supplies, and t o request assistance from WHO fo r the fornulation of such requests;
4. THANKS the World Health Organization and health authori t ies of the Region fo r the effect ive action taken w i t h regard t o the outbreak of cholera El Tor l a s t year and endorses the preventive measures against future outbreaks;
5. NOTES w i t h appreciation the e f fo r t s to a s s i s t the countries towards the eradication of smallpox from the Region;
6. COMMENDS the Regional Director f o r his c lear and substant ia l report.
