The articles refer to investigations under way since 1996 when the Austrian authorities seized a consignment of illegally imported plasma. The trial of plasma brokers involved in this trafficking is due to take place soon in Austria. The Austrian health authorities, as well as the Swiss authorities who have been investigating the same issue, have confirmed that countries identified during the investigation as having received potentially dangerous blood products had been notified. Exchange of information between national control authorities is essential. The national control authority of a country importing blood products can request information on the quality of those products from the corresponding authority of the exporting country.1 Ⅲ 1
