WPR Handb.Res., 4th ed., 1.3.3(2) Fourth meeting, 9 September 1963 WP/RC14.R3 PROPOSED PROGRAMME AND BUDGET ESTIMATES FOR 1965 I The Regional COmmittee, Having examined the programme and budget estimates proposed for the Western Pacific Region in 19651 and the report of the Sub-Committee on Programme and Budget, 2 1. ENDORSES the proposed programme under the regular budget and those proposed to be financed from the Malaria Eradication Special Account and the Special Account for the Community Water Supply Programme; 2. NOTES the programme proposed to be financed under the Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance; and 3. AGREES that the following inter-country group educational activities are important and should be undertaken in 1965: Filariasis seminar Seminar on helminthic diseases Seminar on haemorrhagic fevers Seminar on health planning in urban development Nursing conference on guides for staffing of nursing services and methods of study Seminar on leprosy; ~published document WP/RC14/3 2Unpublished document WP/RC14/11 Rev.1 18 REGIONAL COMMITTEE: FOURTEENTH SESSION 4. NOTES that the costing of the above activities is based on their being held in Manila, and 5. DECIDES that if a government wishes to serve as host to any inter-country group educational activity, the additional expenses involved should be met by the government concerned; II Having studied the supplementary list of projects, which were requested by governments, including those brought forward during the meeting, which could not be accommodated within the regional allocation for 1965, 1. BELIEVES that these projects should be considered part of the regional progra.zmne; 2. REQUESTS the Regional Director to implement as many of the projects in the supplementary list as possible, as and when funds are available; III REQUESTS the Regional Director to transmit the proposals to the Director-General. RECOGNIZES the value of keeping health and medical workers abreast with progress in medical science; 2. EMPHASIZES the need for health and medical personnel to continue their education; 3. RECOMMENDS that efforts should be made by governments to encourage refresher courses, in-service training programmes and ensure facilities for continuation stUdies for health workers ..
