Influenza New Zealand (6 August 2001).1 Influenza activity was reported to be widespread from the last week of June until the first week of August. Influenza A virus predominated over influenza B, mostly of subtype A(H1N1). Other reports. During the last 2 weeks of August, influenza activity was sporadic in Australia,2 Canada2 and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.3 Influenza viruses A and B were isolated or detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or immunofluorescence tests.
