INFLUENZA SURVEILLANCE Chile (28 July 1979). — 1 The end of the outbreak of acute respiratory tract infections which affected all age groups in the general population of Santiago has been reported (start: 2nd week of May ; peak : mid-June ; end : 3rd week of July). There was only a slight increase in mortality. One single strain of virus B (similar to B/Hong Kong/5/72) was isolated among 84 specimens obtained in cases of influenza-like illness. A few sero-conversions to influenza vims B were observed in ail age groups, as well as a few seroconversions to adenovirus and virus parainfluenza 1 in children. 1Sec No. 30, p. 235.

SURVEILLANCE DE LA GRIPPE C h il i (28 juillet 1979). — 1 On signale la fin de la poussée d’infec­ tions aiguës des voies respiratoires qui atteignit tous les groupes d’âge dans la population de Santiago (début: 2e semaine de mai; sommet: mi-juin; fin: 3e semaine de juillet). La mortalité n’augmenta que faiblement. On a isolé une seule souche de virus B (similaire à B/Hong Kong/5/72) sur 84 prélèvements effectués dans des cas d’allure grippale. On a mis en évidence quelques séroconversions au virus grippal B dans tous les groupes d’âge, mais aussi quelques séroconversions aux adénovirus et au virus parainfluenza 1 chez les enfants. 1 Voir N° 30. p. 235.
